MIFOS (MicroFinance Open Source Project)
The Grameen Foundation initiated the MIFOS Project after recognizing the need for easy to use Management Information Systems (MIS) for microfinance institutions. MIFOS is an open source software that allows individual MFIs to modify the software to their institutional needs. MIFOS allows MFIs to better serve the poor through lower transaction costs, faster transaction processing, up-to-date information for loan officers, less paperwork, automatic calculations that lead to less human error, reduced risk of fraud and increased access to capital.
Grameen Koota is the first beta partner for MIFOS. Internal and external IT specialists are working to design and implement the program.
