Before joining Grameen Koota, Khalida earned a small income rolling bidis (small Indian cigarettes) and her husband worked in the vegetable trade. Her husband traveled to Bangalore everyday and she had trouble providing food for the family.

She joined Grameen Koota four years ago and used her first loan to start a small grocery store with general items. During the term of her second loan, she was able to purchase a refrigerator for her store in order to sell milk products. The business experienced growth during this period and they earned Rs. 150-200 ($4-5) per day.

With her fourth loan, Khalida started an emergency fund for her family and purchase gold in order to save money in a tangible asset. The family plans to spend Rs 50,000 ($1250) to build a house and rent it to people as an additional source of income.
