Razya and her husband had difficulty finding work in their hometown of Kanakapura. Although her husband earned a little in the sericulture business, she was unemployed for three years. Razya used her first Grameen Koota loan to invest in a scrap business. In the first year of operations, the family earned a profit and was able to send the children to school and purchase furniture for their home.

During her second year as a Grameen Koota member, Razya started a small silk trading business, purchasing materials from a wholesaler and selling it at local markets. With monthly revenues of 50,000 Rupees, the business proved to be very successful and the family has used subsequent loans to improve the business.

Since joining Grameen Koota, Razya has opened a bank balance to keep her savings, purchased a life insurance policy and paid for her brother in law’s marriage. Her future goal is to build a good house for her family.

“My dream now is to build a home for my family”
