Name: Gowramma
Age: 27
Branch: Kanakapura
Family: husband, two daughters
Loan Cycle: 6th
Before joining Grameen Koota, Gowramma and her husband worked as daily wage laborers, earning 25 and 50 Rupees per day, respectively. When her husband’s sister was married, the family was forced to take loans from moneylenders at very high rates, putting the family in a very difficult financial position.
When Gowramma took her first loan from Grameen Koota, she was able to purchase her own sericulture farm, secure a plot of land and pay off her family’s debt to moneylenders. During her third loan cycle, Gowramma and her husband purchased a tractor and hired twelve laborers and two drivers.
Today, the family is investing in a poultry farm and purchasing a home in the nearby town of Kanakapura. Although Gowramma now has access to several other forms of credit, she plans to stay with Grameen Koota for at least three more years.
“I will stay with Grameen Koota in the future"
